DIPR organizes media workshop cum experience-sharing session for staff, private media persons

Kargil, Feb 21, 2024: As part of a series of events, the Department of Information & Public Relations (DIPR), Kargil today organized a media workshop-cum-experience sharing session for its staff and private media persons of Kargil. 

Joint Director, Information, Ladakh, Imteeaz Kacho graced the occasion as chief guest along with Assistant Director Information, Kargil, Padma Angmo.

In his keynote address, the Joint Director, Information, Ladakh, Imteeaz Kacho highlighted the role of media and the endeavours of DIPR Kargil in information dissemination as well as capacity building.

He said that under the supervision  and guidance of Commissioner/Secretary, DIPR Ladakh, Padma Angmo, the Department has shown remarkable progress and achieved new heights.

The Joint Director highlighted the many achievements of DIPR Kargil including revival of the bi-monthly magazine Kargil Nama as well as consistently improving the quality of content under the supervision of its Editor, Mansoor Peer.

He also expressed the department’s eagerness to receive contributions from media persons, public and students for the bi-lingual Kargil Nama magazine. 

Kacho also said that the experience-sharing session will offer local journalists valuable exposure and insights into their field and hoped that the workshop would help enhance and upgrade skills of media team of DIPR-Kargil and local journalists. He assured that the Department will aim at continuing the trend of organizing such workshops regularly round the year.  Further, he advised media persons of Kargil to take  youngsters, aspiring to take up journalism, as their interns and help them chalk out a career and channelize their energies.

Earlier, Assistant Director ,Information, Kargil, Padma Angmo presented the welcome speech and briefed the participants about the importance of the workshop.

She said the workshop was aimed at giving exposure to journalists from the experience-sharing session and help them to compete with the different challenges in their professional lives. 

During his address, President, Ladakh Press Club, Kargil, Mohammad Hussain Khalo thanked Commissioner/Secretary, DIPR- Ladakh, Padma Angmo; Joint Director, Information, Ladakh and Assistant Director, Information, Kargil for providing an effective platform for the media persons and expressed hope that DIPR-Kargil will organize such events in future as well to improve the skills of journalists.

He appreciated the role of private media in the dissemination of information among the masses and explained how the media has played a pivotal role in highlighting schemes and policies of the Government.  Khalo shared insights from his vast experience in the field of media, discussing challenges and difficulties faced by him and his team in the initial years of journalism in Kargil and threw light on how to maintain journalistic ethics.

Assistant Information Officer, DIPR, Anwar Ali Tsarpa also shared his experiences with the participants. He advised journalists to engage with traditional media platforms for personal growth and prioritize their stories effectively to enhance their professional impact.

The other journalists who shared their experiences included Executive Editor, Voice of Ladakh, Syed Hashim Razvi; Reporter DIPR, Kargil, Murtaza Fazili; Correspondent Gulistan News, Mohd Ishaq; Editorial Executive, Akashwani News; RNU-Kargil, Anayat Ali and Correspondent, ETV, Ghulam Nabi Ziya.

In the end, the Assistant Director, Information, Kargil presented the vote of thanks to the guests, participants and staff of DIPR as well as local media persons for attending the productive workshop and making it successful. Further, she emphasized the importance of adhering to media ethics, urging journalists to maintain integrity and uphold ethical standards in their work.
