CEC Dr Jaffer chairs review meeting on stray dog management
Kargil, Feb 27: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon today chaired a review meeting on stray dog management in Kargil town in the wake of recent stray dog attacks in different localities.
Executive Councilor, Tourism, Kacho Mohd Feroz, Administrator Municipal Committee (MC) Kargil and Joint Director, Information, Ladakh, Imteaaz Kacho, Wildlife Warden Kargil, Raza Ali Abdi, representatives of Animal Husbandry, Ladakh Police and members of civil society from Kargil town were present during the meeting.
The CEC expressed concern over attacks by stray dogs on the population and livestock in various localities, particularly in Kargil town, emphasizing the need for a strict action plan to resolve the issues. The meeting delved into various aspects of controlling the dog menace.

CEC Dr Jaffer directed coordinated efforts from Animal Husbandry, MC Kargil, Wildlife, and Ladakh Police to catch stray dogs from localities such as Goma Kargil, Drass, Kako, Shilikchay, Pashkum, and other areas. Necessary action was instructed to be taken to resolve the issues.
The CEC further directed the Animal Husbandry Department to promptly send estimates and proposals for fuel and hiring of vehicles for the short-term plan.
He also directed the Animal Husbandry Department to prepare a comprehensive plan for stray dog management, which should include provisions for sanctuary, vehicles, and other necessary logistics. This plan is to be reflected in the upcoming financial plan.
The CEC said the dog-catching squad should be activated for robust action. Additionally, he took an assessment of sterilization data and the number of dogs caught in recent times.
EC Kacho Mohd Feroz also called for a quick action plan and suggested that brainstorming should be conducted among the concerned departments to effectively deal with the menace.
The meeting also acknowledged the compensation in case of losses due to stray dog attacks, emphasizing that it should be discussed with the UT Administration.

Please do not take violent action against dogs. Do not harm another living creature. They to have a right to live. They do not harm a human unless provocated. Please put up boards saying to treat them humanely. This planet doesn’t belong to humans only.
