No Confidence in University’s Functioning, Says KDA
VoL Desk, Jan. 07: The Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) in a press release expressed deep concern over the recent recruitment process initiated by the University of Ladakh through Notification 06 of 2023, dated 21.12.2023.
The KDA, after careful consideration and consultations with various stakeholders, has observed that this recruitment process raises serious questions and may adversely impact the aspirations of the youth of Ladakh.
The Commissioner/Secretary (Hr. Edu/Tech. Edu/SW/Information) Ms. Padma Angmo, and other university officials, during a series of interviews, have provided information and clarifications that, rather than alleviating concerns, have only reinforced the apprehensions surrounding this recruitment, maintained the press release.

The KDA firmly believes that this recruitment, if allowed to proceed unchecked, could potentially compromise the opportunities for the youth of Ladakh, the press release added. The University of Ladakh has been mired in a state of confusion, as evidenced by the recent CTA strike and the introduction of the ‘Amendment of University of Ladakh Act 2018.
The cancellation of the recruitment of a Registrar due to eligibility issues and the need for political intervention in similar cases for the posts of Assistant Registrar and Associate Professors have further eroded our confidence in the university’s functioning, the KDA maintained.
“The KDA is distressed to note that the university’s actions have not only affected the stability of the institution but have also had a direct impact on the unemployed educated youth of Ladakh. The recent clarification by the Registrar regarding the notification, highlighting that even positions reserved/notified as ST seats are not necessarily reserved for candidates from Ladakh, adds to our concerns.”
“In the absence of a notified state reservation policy for gazetted Posts in the Union Territory of Ladakh, the KDA is determined to address this issue with the Ministry of Home Affairs through the High-Powered Committee (HPC) of Ladakh. Until these matters are resolved and clarity is provided, the KDA vehemently demands the immediate withdrawal of Notification 06 of 2023 and calls for a pause in the recruitment process”.
The Kargil Democratic Alliance appeals to the concerned authorities to intervene promptly and ensure that the aspirations of the youth of Ladakh are not compromised. The KDA remains committed to fostering an environment of fairness, transparency, and equal opportunities for all.
