Health Department organizes Anti-Leprosy Day in Leh
Leh, Jan 30: Anti-Leprosy Day campaign was observed under the theme of ‘Ending Stigma, Embracing Dignity’ at Conference Hall of the CMO office Leh today on January 30.
The campaign started with observance of two minutes silence on Marty’s Day in the memory of those who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for India’s freedom.
CMO, Leh, Dr. Diskit Dolma shared that Leprosy Day in India is observed on January 30 which marks the martyrdom day of Mahatma Gandhi.

She directed all the paramedical staff to spread awareness about this disease in the community and clear all the misconception about the Leprosy disease from the people.
Additionally, she highlighted the main aim of the theme is to eliminate the stigma and discrimination associated with Leprosy. Further, ensure that the fortnight long campaign from January 30 to February 13 would be conducted successfully.
During the event District Medical Officer Leh, Farana Iqbal inform that Leprosy is a curable disease but if it is not detected early, it causes parament deformities and disabilities. So far seven Leprosy patients were detected in which six patients are non-local and their treatment is going on.
Dr. Punchok Angchuk also suggested to aware people about Leprosy diseases.
Medical Officer, Sakti, Dr. Tsering Angchok, Asha, Staffs of CMO, Leh were participated in the event.
