VoL Desk, Dec. 12: The Apex Body of Leh wholeheartedly applauded the recent Supreme Court ruling on the abrogation of Article 370, deeming it a significant stride toward fortifying national integration.

They extended a warm embrace to the Court’s stance on the prompt reinstatement of statehood for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the scheduling of Assembly elections in J&K before September 30, 2024.

Emphasizing the essence of democracy, the Body underscored that genuine power resides with the people, making an elected government the cornerstone of democratic values.

Expressing optimism spurred by the judgment, the Apex Body highlighted the expectation for the Central Government to reassess and acknowledge Ladakh’s rightful place by granting it statehood.

The region’s substantial area, deeply patriotic populace yearning for recognition, imperative for accelerated development, strategic positioning, and distinctive ethnic and cultural identity undoubtedly merit the elevation of Ladakh to statehood.

Reflecting on their consistent opposition to Article 370, the Body expressed contentment that the Supreme Court’s verdict has validated the prudence and sagacity of their standpoint.
