Qambar Ali Akhoon Appointed as Additional General Secretary of NC
Kargil, September 12: The National Conference (NC) Party has designated Qambar Ali Akhoon, a senior leader hailing from Kargil, Ladakh, and a former Cabinet Minister, as its Additional General Secretary.
This marks a historic occasion, as it is the first time a leader from Ladakh has assumed such a significant role within the party.
With decades of unwavering commitment to the National Conference, Akhoon has an illustrious political career. He has previously represented the Kargil constituency and held a ministerial position during the tenure of Omar Abdullah’s government in the former state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Furthermore, Akhoon has been a prominent figure in Kargil’s political landscape, having served as an Advisor to the then Chief Minister, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, and being the inaugural Chief Executive Councillor for the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil in 2002.
Meanwhile, leaders of the National Conference in Kargil have warmly embraced the appointment of Qamar Ali Akhoon as the Additional General Secretary of the party. They have expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the party’s high command, including NC President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah.
Haji Hanifa Jan, the District President of NC Kargil, emphasized that this marks the first instance of a leader from Kargil assuming the role of Additional General Secretary within the party’s ranks.
