Joint Secy MoRD reviews progress of MGNREGA and VVP in UT Ladakh
Leh, Sept. 09: Joint Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, Amit Kataria chaired a meeting to review the progress made in the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and the Vibrant Village Programme in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
Besides, Secretary, Rural Development Department, UT Ladakh, Amit Sharma was also present during the meeting. During the review meeting, the Joint Secretary analyzed various aspects of MGNREGA implementation in Ladakh, including job demand, work allocation, wage disbursement, and the timely completion of projects. Also, the program’s impact on poverty alleviation, women’s empowerment, and sustainable rural development was also discussed.
One of the key highlights of the review was the recognition of the successful integration of the Vibrant Village Programme into MGNREGA initiatives in Ladakh. Joint Secretary emphasized the need for continued cooperation between the Union Territory administration and the Ministry of Rural Development to fine-tune policies and strategies for maximum impact.

During the meeting, ADDC, Leh, Sonam Nurboo shared success stories and best practices that have emerged from MGNREGA and the Vibrant Village Programme. He also highlighted the transformational impact of these initiatives on the lives of rural communities, including improved access to clean water, better roads, increased agricultural productivity, and enhanced livelihood opportunities.
Besides, Chief Planning Officer, Leh, Tsewang Gyalson also provided an update to the Joint Secretary on the progress of works under the Vibrant Village Programme. Furthermore, the review meeting also addressed the importance of leveraging technology for better monitoring and transparent implementation of MGNREGA and the Vibrant Village Programme in Ladakh.
The Joint Secretary stressed the need for real-time data sharing and digital platforms to streamline the workflow, reduce delays, and ensure that benefits reach the intended beneficiaries promptly. The meeting was attended by ACD, Leh; DPO Leh; All BDOs; MGNREGA supporting staff and other official staff.
