Second National Javelin Day Celebrated in Kargil
Kargil, 07 August: The Athletic Association UT Ladakh, in collaboration with the Athletic Association Kargil, commemorated the Second National Javelin Day on August 7th at the K.S.C.S. Stadium in Kargil.
The day’s proceedings commenced with a grand Opening Ceremony at 10 am, graced by the presence of notable dignitaries. Mr. Syed Toha, Assistant Director of Tourism, and Ex Power Commissioner of J&K, Haji Asger Ali Majazi, presided over the event, adding their distinguished presence to the occasion.
A total of 54 young male athletes and 44 female athletes from various schools came together to compete in categories spanning U/16, U/18, and U/20.

Among the standout performances, in the U/16 Boys category, Masum Abass from High School Minji secured the Bronze medal with a throw of 25.47m, while Mansoor Ali of High School Baroo clinched the Silver Medal. The Gold Medal was secured by Abdul Hassan from High School Saliskot.
In the Girls U/16 category, Zainab Yasmin from High School Goma Kargil claimed the Bronze medal, Mehrun Nisa Baroo stood tall with the Silver Medal, and Bilqees Fatima from K.P.S seized the Gold medal.
In the U/18 Boys category, Liaquat Ali from HSS Chanigund secured the Bronze medal, followed by Abbas Ali from BHSS Kargil with the Silver Medal. The Gold medal was triumphantly claimed by Ali Akber Khan from Government High School, Baroo.
The U/20 Boys category witnessed fierce competition, with Mohd Abass (open) earning the Bronze medal with a throw of 29.6m. Munawar Ali (open) displayed remarkable prowess and clinched the Silver Medal with a throw of 33.15m, while Mohd Hasnain from GDC Kargil emerged victorious with a Gold medal for his throw of 34m.
In the U/20 Girls category, Khatija Banoo from GDC Kargil secured the Bronze medal with a throw of 12.8m. Zarina Banoo, also from GDC Kargil, closely followed with the Silver Medal, recording a throw of 12.9m. The Gold medal was claimed by Kharun Nissa (open) with an impressive throw of 16.30m.
The award ceremony held at 3:00 pm was a moment of pride and encouragement. The Chief Planning Officer who was invited for the award ceremony, graced the occasion and motivated the athletes to continue their rigorous practice for even greater accomplishments. He applauded the Kargil Athletic Association for organising the event flawlessly and extended the district administration’s support to further such initiatives.
The ceremony concluded with the distribution of medals and certificates to the athletes.
