Mohan Danappa’s Remarkable 5-Hour Marathon in Kargil to Promote Army Enrollment
Kargil: Dr. Mohan Kumar Danappa, a distinguished Central Government Advocate at the High Court of Karnataka in Bangalore, orchestrated a unique marathon in Kargil, commemorating the nation’s 77th Independence Day and the 24th Kargil Victory Day on August 15. On the occasion, a remarkable initiative dubbed “Salaam Soldiers” unfolded.
This initiative paid tribute to the valiant soldiers who laid down their lives during the Kargil War and in the struggle for freedom. The event saw the youth of the nation coming together to exhibit their commitment to serving the country by joining the army ranks.
With the tricolor held firmly in his right hand, Dr. Danappa embarked on an inspiring journey, covering a distance of 42 kilometers from Kargil city to the revered Kargil War Memorial. This 5-hour marathon was orchestrated with the primary goal of raising awareness and drawing attention to the noble pursuit of enlisting in the army.

Indian Army Havaldar Anand Kanchagar had the honor of flagging off the marathon. The route spanned through various places including Hardas, Chani Gound, Kakhasar, Kharbs, Kaksar, Thasgam, and Somat, finally culminating at the Kargil War Memorial. Here, Colonel Puneet Katharia extended a warm welcome and commendation to Dr. Danappa, symbolized by the donning of an army cap.
During a reflective moment, Mohan Danappa spoke passionately about the state of Karnataka, which has consistently contributed a substantial number of soldiers to the nation’s defense forces. He underscored a concerning trend of modern youth prioritizing social media presence and monetary pursuits over national service.
Expressing his concern for the nation’s welfare, he deemed it unfortunate that many youngsters were overlooking the call to join the Indian Army and contribute to its mission. He stressed that the true essence of service lay in pledging allegiance to the country, making an earnest appeal for the youth to consider the army as their primary career choice.
The magnitude of Dr. Danappa’s feat became more evident as he successfully completed his marathon endeavor in Kargil, a Union Territory of Ladakh, situated 3150 kilometers away from his native Karnataka. Running at an altitude of 10,800 feet above sea level, he held the national flag aloft for the entirety of the arduous 42-kilometer route.
