VoL Desk, August 5, 2023: The Election Department of the Union Territory of Ladakh has issued a significant notification today, officially announcing the dates for the much-anticipated 5th Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Kargil general elections 2023.

This announcement comes after the Administration of the Union Territory of Ladakh issued a call for constituencies to elect their members for the constitution of the 5th Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Kargil.

According to the notification, the Union Territory Administration has invoked the powers vested in them by rule 12 of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Councils (Election) Rules, 1995. As a result, they have designated the following essential dates and times for the formation of the 5th Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Kargil, as per the aforementioned rule.

The process will commence with the initiation of nominations on August 16, 2023. Prospective candidates will have until August 23, 2023, to submit their nominations. Subsequently, the scrutiny of nominations will take place on August 24, followed by the last date for the withdrawal of nominations on August 26, 2023.

The highly anticipated polling day is scheduled for September 09, 2023, with voting set to occur between 8 AM and 4 PM. The crucial counting of votes is then planned for September 14, with the entire election procedure expected to conclude before September 20, 2023.

It’s important to note that the Model Code of Conduct will come into effect starting from the publication date of this notification, which is August 05, 2023, in the official e-gazette of UT Ladakh. This code of conduct will remain in force until the entire election process is successfully completed. Moreover, the code will be applicable throughout the entirety of the Kargil District.
