VoL Desk, July 09: A tragic incident occurred today at approximately 10:30 hours near Pandrass on the Drass-Srinagar highway, resulting in the unfortunate death of an individual due to a rockfall onto their vehicle, said sources.

The identity of the deceased is yet to be determined, and local law enforcement, specifically the Ladakh Police team, has arrived at the accident scene to assist with the investigation. The victim’s vehicle, a Wagon-R bearing a Kargil district number plate, has been identified.

Fortunately, no injuries or loss of life have been reported from another truck that suffered minor damages at the same location. Further information regarding this incident is still awaited.

In light of the recent weather conditions, authorities have issued a weather alert, as the region has experienced minor rainfall over the past two days.

Later in the evening, the individual who tragically lost their life in the accident was identified as Kazim Ali, a resident of Minji Gound village. Kazim Ali was employed by the Mega Construction Company, involved in the ongoing Zojila Tunnel project.

Upon receiving the distressing news, village elders and the Minji-Baroo councillor promptly arrived at the accident site. They expressed gratitude to the police, administration, and all others involved for their swift assistance in the aftermath of the accident, providing support to the victim during this difficult time.

However, it was noted with disappointment that the officials from the company where the deceased worked failed to arrive at the scene, despite multiple attempts to contact them. The councillor strongly criticized the company officials for their absence and demanded appropriate action against them, holding them accountable for their negligence in this matter.
