Protesters from Sangra Village Outraged Over Key Issues, Demand Government Action
Vol Desk ,July 01: A delegation from Sangra village, Sankoo Block, gathered near the DC office to express their discontent with the district administration. Outraged by three main concerns, the protesters voiced their demands for immediate government action.
The first issue addressed by the villagers was the installation of a transmission line from Kargil to Zanskar on the mainland. Councilor Sankoo expressed concerns over potential livelihood disruptions and life-threatening problems associated with the transmission line. Despite their efforts to raise this issue with the Chief Executive Councilor (CEC), they were informed that the General Manager of the Power Development Department (PDD) was not in Kargil. However, the CEC assured them that the Sub Divisional Magistrate had been instructed to halt the installation process. The protesters demanded that if the installation did not stop, the government should either allocate separate land for them to be rehabilitated or relocate the transmission line away from their inhabited areas.
The second grievance voiced by the Shangra villagers was the recurrent flash floods in Shangra nallah over the past five years. These flash floods have caused property damage and the burial of houses under debris. The administration has failed to develop the irrigation kul adequately despite repeated requests from the villagers. Therefore, the protesters demanded a permanent solution to address the issue and ensure the proper channeling of the irrigation kul, thus preventing any further adverse incidents.

The third demand put forth by the villagers was the temporary restoration of their irrigation kul. They emphasized the urgency of this matter and called upon the administration to take immediate action to fulfill their request.
They urged the district administration and government authorities to listen to their concerns and take prompt action to address the pressing issues of the transmission line, flash floods, and irrigation Kul.
As of now, the district administration has not issued an official response to the protests. The situation remains as it is, with villagers vowing to persist until their grievances are addressed and proper solutions are implemented.
