Live Bomb Blast Claims Life of Porter from Akchamal Village
VoL Desk, July 18: In a devastating event at Akchamal village, Kargil district, a young porter named Mehmood Ali (32), son of Haji Ahmad, lost his life when a live bomb exploded while he was carrying goods for army post. The incident occurred on Monday at approximately 7 pm at Changi mountain in Sout, while he was en route to deliver the army supplies to nearby army posts with his co-workers.
Mehmood Ali had been diligently serving as a porter for the army, assisting in transporting goods to the remote army posts in the region. However, fate took a tragic turn, and the explosion claimed his life, leaving the entire community in shock and mourning.
Pertinent to mention that on April 16, a similar incident occurred near the Astro Football ground at Kurbathang, where an unbusted bomb from the 1999 war exploded, killing one teenager and injuring two others.

The loss of such individuals has raised concerns about the safety of porters and local population who play a crucial role in supporting military operations in challenging terrains.
