LG Brig (Dr) BD Mishra Inaugurates Tribal Fest at University of Ladakh, Kargil Campus
Students Showcase Handmade Products and Local Cuisine at Exhibition-cum-Sale
VoL Desk, June 7, 2023: In a grand ceremony held at the University of Ladakh, Kargil Campus, Hon’ble Lt. Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra inaugurated the much-anticipated Tribal Fest 2023. The event showcased the vibrant cultural heritage of the region and brought together students from various colleges, along with public and private institutions, to celebrate the rich diversity of the local tribes.
The highlight of the festival was an exhibition-cum-sale, where students and artisans displayed their locally made handmade products. Visitors had the opportunity to witness the craftsmanship and creativity of the indigenous communities, contributing to the preservation of traditional arts and crafts. Additionally, a wide array of local cuisines was available, accompanied by innovative demonstrations that showcased the unique flavors and techniques of Ladakhi cuisine.

During the event, the Hon’ble Lt. Governor took note of the requests made by the University Administration regarding infrastructural needs, manpower requirements, and other essentials. Assuring the community, Lt. Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra emphasized that education would be accorded the highest priority. He further stated that there would be no delay in advancing crucial projects related to the education sector, ensuring the continued growth and development of the University of Ladakh, Kargil Campus.
In a moment of pride, the Hon’ble Lt. Governor also launched the annual magazine of the University of Ladakh, Kargil Campus, titled ‘Shese Stago.’ This publication serves as a platform for students and faculty to showcase their academic achievements, research endeavors, and contributions to the local community.
Early in the morning, Hon’ble Lt. Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra, along with Hon’ble Chairperson of LAHDC Kargil Sh. Feroz Ahmad Khan and the Deputy Commissioner of Kargil, Sh. Santoshsukhdeve, IAS, dedicated a motorable bridge at Zamistiang, Kargil, for the public’s convenience.
The newly constructed 49-meter bridge not only allows smooth vehicular movement but also features well-designed footpaths on both sides, ensuring the safety and convenience of pedestrians.
