Shuk-Pa and Tser-sNon Nominated as Potential State Tree and Flower of Ladakh
VoL Desk, May 03: As per the recommendations of a committee consisting of three members chaired by the Director of Sowa Rigpa in Leh, the Juniper polypros (Ladakhi-Shuk-Pa) and Meconopsis aculeata (Himalayan blue poppy/ Ladakhi Tser-sNon) are being considered for the designation of State Tree and State Flower of Ladakh respectively.
The Forest, Ecology & Environment Department, Ladakh through Notice E.F.No. A/243/2023/25-31, has issued an invitation for public suggestions regarding the committee’s recommendation. The public is encouraged to provide their input within a 30-day period starting from the date of publication of the notice. The notice can be accessed on the official websites of the Administration of the Union Territory of Ladakh (ladakh.nic.in), Leh District (leh.nic.in), and Kargil District (kargil.nic.in).
Suggestions can be submitted via email to [email protected] or through postal mail to the following address: Office of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest/Chief Wildlife Warden, 2nd floor, Wildlife Building, Near Civil Secretariat, Leh, UT Ladakh.

Great step.
I suggest for inclusion of the “Stakpa Tree” also as the “State Tree” which is used for Treatments by the Ladakhi Amchi / Akhon/ Aga,(Syed) such as Shukb-e-Choo, Tabiz Etc, just like Shukpa, Trees since ancient time in Ladakh.
