VoL Desk, May 31: Agha Mehdi Mehdavipur, the Representative of the Supreme Leader of Iran in India, participated in a significant event today by laying the foundation stone of the Imamia Jama Masjid in Leh. The ceremony was attended by prominent members of various religious communities, along with the representatives of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) and the general public.

Agha Mehdi Mehdavipur, who is currently on a six-day visit to Ladakh as a State Guest of the UT Administration, arrived in Leh on May 30. His arrival was greeted with a warm welcome from all religious communities, exemplifying the spirit of communal harmony in Ladakh.

During the foundation stone ceremony and other events, notable figures such as Thupstan Chewang, President of the Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA), Tashi Gyaltsan, Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of LAHDC Leh, Feroz Ahmad Khan, CEC of Kargil, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal MP Ladakh, Sheikh Sadiq Rajai, Chairman of the Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust (IKMT), Sheikh Nazir Mehdi Mohammadi, President of the Jamiat Ulama Isna Ashriya Kargil (JUIAK), President Anjuman Imamia Leh, President Anjuman Moin ul Islam, and Executive Councillors of LAHDC Leh and Kargil, among others, were present.

Expressing his gratitude, Agha Mehdavipur thanked the Anjuman Imamia Leh for their commendable display of communal harmony during the foundation stone ceremony, which propagated messages of love, peace, and coexistence. In recognition of their efforts, he announced a financial assistance of 5 lac rupees towards the construction of the mosque.

Later, Agha Mehdavipur visited various sacred places representing different religious faiths, including the Buddhist Chokhang Vohara, Leh Church, Sunni Jama Masjid Leh, Imam Bargah Leh, and Imamia Mission School Chuchot Leh. The visit to the Leh district concluded with a dinner organized by the Anjuman Imamia Leh Town at the Grand Wazwan Restaurant.
