EC Tashi holds meeting with Deputy GOC at Kumbathang Kargil regarding setting up of war memorial museum
Kargil, April 20, 2023: Executive Councilor Tourism/RD and Zanskar Affairs, Er Punchok Tashi today called on Brigd Upinder Singh Anand Deputy GOC 8 Mountain Division at Kumbathang to sort out several pending issues with Army regarding setting up of war memorial museum within the premises of Army and land allotment to Army at Stongdey Kumik Zanskar.
EC Tashi briefed the Dy GOC and other army officers about the proposal for the construction of war memorial museum at Kumbathang approved under Kargil Development Authority. He sought their consent for post maintenance and operation as well as providing army-related artefact to house in the museum.
Assistant Commissioner Revenue Kargil, Abdul Gaffar Zargar, who is also holding the charge of Chief Executive Officer, Kargil Development Authority were present in the meeting and has intimated about the proposed project while a joint survey for identification of suitable land adjoining to Army area was conducted.

Deputy GOC expressed willingness for post maintenance and operation of the proposed war memorial museum and said that it would be a tribute to Indian Army besides promoting border Tourism in the region. Notably, Army has already setup a war memorial museum at Drass where hundreds of tourists visit every year.
Later, EC Tashi along with CEO KDA AG Zargar and Khadim Hussain Registering Officer Antiquities, Archives Department Ladakh visited Karsekhar Buddha statue and inspected the ongoing work being funded under District Capex as well as Archives Department UT Ladakh. It was directed to the concerned executing agency to complete the work at Buddha statue site within a month.
