Heads of all departments, progressive farmers’ discus agriculture sector in Kargil

Kargil April 05, 2023: Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Khan today chaired a meeting with Director DIHAR, DRDO, Leh Dr OP Chaurasia and officials of other concerned departments regarding the development of agriculture and allied sectors in Kargil district.

Executive Councilor Agriculture, LAHDC, Kargil, Mohsin Ali, Executive Councilor for Animal and Sheep Husbandry, LAHDC, Kargil, Agha Syed Mehdi Fazli, Director DIHAR, DRDO, Leh Dr OP Chaurasia, Director Horticulture UT, Ladakh, Chief Agriculture Officer, Kargil, Chief Horticulture Officer, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Deputy Director Command Area development Kargil, Assistant Director Fisheries Kargil, representative of I&FC Kargil, District Sheep Husbandry Officer Kargil, Wildlife Warden Kargil, Principal Scientist KVK SKUAST, Kargil, Senior Scientist Research Station SKUAST Kargil, other officers and progressive farmers attended the meeting.

During the meeting, the CEC highlighted the potential of agriculture and allied sectors and importance of DIHAR, DRDO technology in making agriculture progressive in the district.

Khan said the meeting was aimed to prepare comprehensive and strategic plan for developing the agriculture and allied sectors in the district.

The meeting was held on the directions of Lieutenant Governor UT Ladakh, Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd) to discuss inputs for plan in agriculture and allied sectors for the district.

The CEC appreciated the viewpoints presented by respective heads of departments in the meeting adding that the meeting remained fruitful.

Talking about the suggestions of progressive farmers, Khan said the suggestions need to be focused and implemented so that crop production and entrepreneurship in agriculture gets boost in the district with positive Cost-Benefit Ratio (CBR).

Khan on the suggestion of senior scientist SKUAST Kargil emphasised on best packaging strategy of apricot so that there would be brand promotion and the people of Kargil avail maximum benefit from apricot export.

The CEC also talked about the development of fodder and identification of area for it. He suggested the DRDO to impart training on research issues for officials, entrepreneurs and farmers of Kargil.

Earlier, Scientist DIHAR, DRDO, Leh in his presentation a portrayed the purpose of transformation of agriculture sector by innovative technology.

He also talked about developmental model regarding crop production. He also displayed some techniques that have been implemented in the UT Ladakh from 2017 onwards.

Dr Chourasia spoke about their technologies to address various issues related to fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy products, milk, chicken rearing, egg hatching, growing aromatic and medicinal plants. He also detailed about the ongoing research and plans of DIHAR.

During the event, progressive farmers requested the DRDO, DIHAR to set up a sub-center research institute in Kargil.

Later, the officials of other departments and progressive farmers shared their views for making a strategic plan and development of agriculture and allied sectors in Kargil.
