Leh, Apr 01: The Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh’s Council Secretariat observed Bhoti Language Day with great fervor. The event was held under the chairmanship of the Executive Councillor for RDD, Tashi Namgyal Yakzee in the presence of the Executive Councillor for Art & Culture, Stanzin Chosphel, and the Executive Councillor for Minority, Ghulam Mehdi. Councillors, Nominated Councillors, and the office staff led by CCF, LAHDC Leh attended the event.

During the event, the staff and officials learned to write their names in Bhoti. The initiative aimed to promote the use of the Bhoti language in everyday communication and to encourage and instill pride among the officials to preserve and promote the unique cultural and linguistic heritage of Ladakh.

EC Tashi Namgyal Yakzee spoke about the need to create awareness among the people about the significance of the Bhoti language and the efforts being made by LAHDC Leh to promote it. He also talked about the importance of preserving the traditional knowledge and practices of Ladakh. He emphasised that Ladakh has a unique traditional knowledge system based on harmony between all communities. He urged everyone to respect and preserve these traditions, which are an essential part of Ladakh’s identity.

EC Chosphel stated that LAHDC Leh has taken various initiatives to promote and preserve the Bhoti language through various cultural programs, workshops, and events at the village level in the past years. EC Chosphel talked about the role of the Bhoti language in promoting cultural diversity and urged everyone to learn and use Bhoti in their daily lives. 

EC Ghulam Mehdi emphasised that the Bhoti language is not restricted to a particular religion or community but is the language and identity of Ladakhis as a whole. He urged everyone to take pride in their linguistic identity and to work towards strengthening it. He further added that the Balti tribe has been an integral part of Ladakh’s cultural and linguistic diversity, and the celebration of Bhoti Language Day is a great opportunity to recognise and celebrate this diversity. He encouraged everyone to promote and preserve the Bhoti language not just for their own benefit but for the benefit of the entire Ladakhi community.

Councillor Karma Namdak shared his experience of learning Bhoti and how it helped him connect with the Ladakhi culture and people. He urged everyone to take pride in their cultural heritage and promote the Bhoti language.

Similarly, all govt offices, schools, and private institutions of Leh district observed Bhoti Language Day with great enthusiasm and fervor.
