“Bhoti Language Day” celebrated in Leh, Zanskar
VoL Desk, April 01: On the occasion of Bhoti Language Day, the Ladakh Administration, along with various stakeholders, celebrated the event to promote traditional literature and the Bhoti language.
LG Ladakh took to Twitter to urge Ladakhis to observe the day, citing that the preservation of the cultural heritage and language is necessary for maintaining identity and connecting with roots.
Govt. Model Degree College Zanskar celebrated the day with a program that included speeches by Prof. Mohd Ishaq, Dr Tashi Lhundup, and Dr Jamphel Sheyan. The speakers highlighted the importance of knowing one’s native language to understand culture and history.

Meanwhile, all the schools in the Khaltse zone celebrated the day with an essay competition, language competition, skit, and cultural performance to raise awareness about the significance of the Bhoti language.
The Education Department in Nubra also celebrated the day with a rally and competitions such as Bhoti poetry recitation and calligraphy. The Seminar and Debate Committee of Government Degree College (GDC), Nubra observed Bhoti Language Day at GDC, Nubra campus.
The event was graced by Principal GDC Nubra, Dr Tsewang Motup who spoke about the importance of Bhoti language and its rich cultural heritage. He highlighted that the Bhoti script ‘Yige’ was invented in the 7th century AD and represents the cultural identity of Ladakhis. He stressed on the importance of promoting and preserving the Bhoti language and including it in the 8th schedule of the Indian Constitution.
Moreover, the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Department celebrated the day by printing the approved rate list in the Bhoti language. In addition, officials voluntarily wore traditional attire once a week to encourage traditional culture.
