VoL Desk, Feb. 22: In a significant step towards use of generic medicines, Principal Secretary, Health and Medical Education Department, UT Ladakh, Dr Pawan Kotwal has ordered the consultants and Medical Officers to prescribe drugs only by their generic names.

The PS in an ORDER No. 04 (H&ME) UTL of 2023, Dated: 21.02.2023 maintained, “It is impressed upon all the consultants/ Medical Officers of Health & Medical Department Ladakh to Prescribe drugs only by their GENERIC NAMES and to write in CAPITAL LETTERS with name, designation, signature and seal of the treating doctor”.

“The Chief Medical Officers / Medical Superintendents / Block Medical Officers shall supply/ display at all OPDS/Wards/Sections the list of Medicines available by their generic names in the hospital stores, Pharmacy, indoor and emergency department in their respective institutions”, read the said order.

Any violation of the circular shall be considered violation of this administrative
directions and would be viewed seriously.
