GDC Drass organizes 2nd online lecture series on NEP

KARGIL, JAN 01, 2023: Research and Publication Committee, Govt. Degree College, Drass today organized the second online lecture series on National Education Policy (NEP) under the guidance and support of the college’s principal, Dr Amjad Ali Abbasi.

Pertinently, the first lecture series on NEP was held on December 18, 2022 and the key speaker was Prof. Deskyong Namgyal, Dean of Academic Affairs and Controller of Examination, University of Ladakh.

The 2nd lecture series commenced via Google Meet. The principal in his welcome address welcomed the keynote speaker Dr Jawad Naqi, who is also Chairman of the Committee for Skill Education (NEP-FYUP), Higher Education UT Ladakh and all the participants.

Participants included students of the GDC Drass as well. Dr Jawad started his talk with a presentation on Skill Education in National Education Policy (NEP 2020).

He introduced the NEP and spoke about skill enhancement and vocational courses in general and Ladakh-specific skills courses in particular.

Dr Jawad said the NEP is going to introduce and promote different skill courses that are market-driven and increase the student’s employability. Students will be offered a pool of skill courses and can opt for any courses of their interest from this pool of courses.

NEP also aims to minimize the social stigma attached to taking up a vocation as a career and stresses on skill-based courses mandatory for jobs.

Furthermore, he said Ladakh Skill Development Mission has signed MoUs with different skill sectors of India and they will help in placement, training and providing certificates.

Dr Jawad further talked about Ladakh having skill courses related to its geography and market demands. A question and answer session was followed by Dr Jawad’s talk in which participants including students actively participated.

Ali Shabir, Assistant Professor of English was the moderator and the event concluded with vote of thanks presented by Dr Azram Tahoor, Assistant Professor Environment Science.
