Speaking on the occasion, KDA Co-Chairman, Asgar Ali Karbalai, said that they have raised the key issues of Ladakh to the Centre government; but these demands are manipulated to misrepresent the interest of Ladakh. “We want to clear the Centre Govt. that we are not going on backfoot on our demands”, Karbalai added.

In the context of the nomination of members for the High-Powered Committee, Asgar Karbalai said that the people of Ladakh will decide their representative to represent them at the Centre.

Apex Body leader, Nawang Rigzin Jora said that the Ladakhi people are not against the govt but the Government need to address the genuine demands of Ladakh positively.

Regarding excessive interference of bureaucracy in Ladakh, Jora said that the funds are being provided at the disposal of bureaucrats where there is no public representation and accountability for the public.

Nawang Rigzin Jora said that the actual demand of the people of Ladakh was on the line of Puducherry which is a Union Territory with a Legislature. However, in the current setup, the people of Ladakh are betrayed. Indeed, there is no public representation in current Ladakh.

Jora alleged that in the current High-Powered Committee, mostly BJP-affiliated people were included, while excluding the actual public stakeholders and veteran leaders.

Social Activist and ISK representative, Sajjad Kargili said, “Promises were made with the people of Ladakh to empower them; however, in current Ladakh, there is no protection for land, no proper recruitment and job opportunity, and no separate Public Service Commission for Ladakh to fill gazetted posts”.

The four point agenda of Ladakh are full-fledged statehood for Ladakh, protection under Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, early recruitment and job opportunities for youth and separate Lok-Sabha and Rajya Sabha seats for Leh and Kargil district.

  1. the politics in Ladakh is day by becoming polarized and murkier and the good thing is it not polarized on religion cast or community. politics is healthy when there is check and balances for opinion and decision to shape in a genuine interest for the people of Ladakh and its future.
I understand the people of Kargil they want a statehood because they were not at all happy with the UT because some old politician played politics for their own interests and benefits, rather shaping the Kargil infrastructure and well being for community.during NC and congress regime the corruption was so rampant there. Most of these leaders own govt land and constructed big hotels.heavy corruption of govt tenders , corruption in government, corruption in policing , misuse of power. After UT those thing are brought under control and when they see decline in their politic power first they tried to form a party under Omar And to for demand of statehood and inclusion with Kashmir. When they realized this would not going to happen in the leader Omar and on right time they joined the leh alliance. Basically they are not at all interest of sixth schedule, their main Moto is to get a statehood so that those decayed politician get back some life.
I don’t understand on thing they said is there is too much bureaucracy now with UT. But the bureaucracy would remain even with sixth schedule , it is clearly there written on 6th schedule any decession on any discussed bill by councilors has to signed by the governor to become a law. so the shadow of bureaucracy would not go the either way. One good thing is now the council has the land authority so what else we need.
I can understand the job but even if Ladakh has given a 6th schedule , job crisis would remain the same , since or population is becoming world largest by end of 2023.

getting statehood would be worse than UT there will be so many politics and politcian, the politics will be more than the population .
I think the apex body leh really in the larger interests of ladakhi people and it future (than power and politics) they should meet the HPC and discuss the issue on table, rather than stubborn nature just by listening those bunch hypocrite Kargil leaders. Where its 6ht schedule or constitutional protection after all it will be give by centre .
