World Heritage Week celebration concludes in Leh district
Leh, Nov 25: The week-long celebration of World Heritage Week organised by the Archaeological Survey of India, Mini Circle Leh in collaboration with the Archives, Archaeology and Museums Department, Leh concluded at the iconic Leh Palace today in presence of chief guest Prof S K Mehta, Vice Chancellor, University of Ladakh.
Chief guest Prof. S K Mehta lauded the efforts of the organisers and added that the climatic conditions prevalent in Ladakh contribute to making its heritage unique and precious that which must be preserved. He highlighted the role of the younger generation in the conservation and preservation of heritage.
VC UoL also shared the various upcoming initiatives of the Ladakh university in collaboration with foreign universities to broaden the horizons of the students.

Prof Tsewang Dolma, Department of Tribal and Tourism, UoL spoke about different aspects of the rich indigenous knowledge of Ladakh.
Other speakers, such as Dr. Sonam Wangchuk, Founder, Himalayan Cultural Heritage Foundation; Tashi Morup, Project Director, Ladakh Art and Media Organisation (LAMO) and Dr. Nasreen Fatima, Health Department, Kargil, shared their views on the tangible and intangible heritage of Ladakh.
They stressed the need for research and exploration, upkeeping the ongoing conservation/ restoration activities by the different organisations, individuals and the role of young people in bequeathing a rich cultural heritage to the future generation.
Earlier, Archaeologist Dr. Sonam Spalzin, highlighted the various activities organised during the week-long celebration.
