Padma Angmo visits UoL’s Kargil Campus, GDC Kargil, ITI
KARGIL, OCTOBER 04, 2022: On the second day of her visit to Kargil, Commissioner/Secretary Higher Education, Social & Tribal Welfare and Technical Education, Padma Angmo today visited the Kargil Campus of University of Ladakh , Govt. Degree College Kargil and Govt. Industrial Training Institute Kargil.
She was accompanied by Joint Director Information Ladakh, Imteeaz Kacho, District Social Welfare Officer Kargil, Agha Syed Jamal and Under Secretary Higher Education Rigziin Yangdol.
At the Kargil Campus of UOL, the Commissioner/Secretary took an assessment of the ongoing construction works. The Rector Kargil Campus, Kaneez Fatima informed the Commissioner/Secretary about various undergoing infrastructural initiatives and other issues. The Commissioner/Secretary assured earliest redressal regarding the matter.

Padma Angmo also held an interactive session with the students undergoing UPSC Civil Services coaching at the Campus. While addressing the students, she talked at length about basic preparations required for Civil Services examinations and advised them to remain consistent regarding the preparation. She also visited laboratories and the library to review the recently installed fully Automated Library Management System which is the first of its kind in Ladakh.
The Commissioner/Secretary was felicitated with traditional Khataqs and momentos by the Rector.
At GDC Kargil, Padma Angmo had an interaction with students and faculty. She congratulated the College for the selection of four of its students for the IIT internship programme and two students for the Civil Services coaching undergoing at the Kargil Campus. In respect of the next batch of Civil Service coaching, ways and meanswill be explored at the earliest,she added.
While expressing satisfaction over the conduct of the weaving training program in collaboration with USHA International, the Commissioner/Secretary have instructions for expanding its horizon by establishing women entrepreneurship centres across villages.
She also congratulated the College for the successful conduct of Ladakh Education Fair 2022 and also took feedback from the students regarding the fair. She said the idea to organize the event was to enhance management skills of the students that will help them in their career.
Highlighting the importance of skill-based education, the Commissioner/Secretary said that with effect from the next session, Skill Courses based on credit system must be introduced in colleges,
as per NEP, and in this regard mitigations are undergoing with Sector Skill Council to introduce green jobs in Kargil in food processing, bakery and allied sectors.
Padma Angmo also visited the Girls’ Hostel building and took assessment of the infrastructure and other facilities being provided to students. She said the Beauty & Wellness Centre should be established in the hostel and maximum students should be enrolled in the centre.
The Commissioner/Secretary directed the College authorities to take measures to introduce skill-based courses under solar equipment, electrician, computers, beauty and wellness, food processing, media and entertainment and other fields.
Earlier, in her welcome address, Principal GDC Kargil, Dr Amina Qari said the College has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India in the field of research and academics under departments of Biotechnology, Botany and Zoology at a cost of Rs 40 lakh and GDC Kargil is the only college in North India to bag this fellowship programme.
Later, the Commissioner/Secretary also visited ITI Kargil where she inspected various trade sections, library and other infrastructure related to the Campus. She gave directions to explore options for the construction of CBT building at the earliest and clear all pendencies regarding infrastructure.
