Apex Body and KDA to launch sustained movement for Ladakh’s four-point agenda
VoL Desk, Oct. 26: In a recent development on core four issues of Ladakh, the Apex Body Leh and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) announced a future course of action after a meeting between the veteran leaders of the two districts at Green Dragon Hotel, Leh today.
The meeting was attended by Apex Body leader Tsering Dorjay Lakruk, Thupstan Chewang, KDA Co-Chairperson Asgar Ali Karbalai, Qambar Ali Akhone, representatives of IKMT Sheikh Bashir Shakir, ISK representative Sajjad Kargili, LAHDC, Congress Party, National Conference, and others stakeholders.
After the meeting, speaking to the media Thupstan Chewang announced that the two bodies has formed a core coordination committee consisting of leaders from both Apex Body and KDA. The members of the committee are Tsering Dorjay Lakruk as Coordinator from Apex Body, Nasir Hussain Munshi as Coordinator from KDA, Thupstan Chewang, LEAF President Padma Stanzin, and Advocate Thinles Angmo as members from Apex Body, and Qambar Ali Akhone, Asgar Ali Karbalai, and Sajjad Kargili as members from KDA.

The veteran leaders have decided to stage a sustained movement for the four-point agenda of Ladakh including constitutional safeguard on the pattern of the Sixth Schedule, Statehood demand, separate seats for Leh and Kargil in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, and recruitment issues.
The core committee will decide the roadmap for a sustained movement in the year 2023-24 for the cause, announced Thupstan Chewang and Asgar Ali Karbalai during the press conference.
The Apex Body also announced support for the massive protest on October 29, for recruitment and unemployment-related issues which was already decided by the students’ organizations and Kargil Democratic Alliance.
Thupstan Chewang further said that October 31 is the foundation Day of the current Union Territory which is not formed as per the demand of the people of Ladakh, thus a massive protest will be held against the UT on November 02 details of which will be announced by the Coordination Committee.
The leaders said that the meeting between the two bodies was delayed due to the visit of the His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Gonpa Issue in Kargil which was amicably resolved by the two bodies after peaceful deliberations.
If the Centre Government think that the KDA and Apex Body are not serious about the four-point agenda of Ladakh, they are wrong. The two bodies are not going to compromise on any of these issues, said Asgar Ali Karbalai.
The two bodies are series about the issues and have decided to carry on a sustained movement for the issues of Ladakh for which the core committee has been established, Karbalai added.
The November 02, protest is just the beginning after which a sustained movement will be carried on by the KDA and Apex Body till 2024.
The leaders of both districts also announced support for the Students’ unions, whenever they give a call for strike and protest in Ladakh.
