World Tourism Day celebrate at EJM College Leh, GDC Drass

Leh, Sept 27: Department of Travel and Tourism Management of EJM College, Leh and Government Degree College Drass organised special sessions on the event of World Tourism Day 2022 under the theme ‘Rethinking Tourism’ at their respective colleges.

At EJM Leh, Guest speaker, Former President of All Ladakh Tour Operators Association (ALTOA), Tsetan Angchuk who is also the Senior Tour Operator and Managing Director of Himalayan Crossroads discussed the steps to make Ladakh a sustainable tourism destination.

Speaker, Vice President, All Ladakh Tour Operators Association (ALTOA), Senior Women Tour Operator and Co-founder of Royal Explorers, Lobzang Tsendol was another speaker present. She highlighted the works of ALTOA towards betterment of tourism in Ladakh and future plans.

Similarly, Vice President, All Ladakh Hotel and Guest House Association (ALGHA), a budding entrepreneur and founder of sustainable boutique resort Dolkhar and Tsas, Rigzin Lachic discussed sustainable tourism as the need of the hour for Ladakh. She also motivated students to pursue entrepreneurship and contribute towards sustainable development of Ladakh.

Earlier, Principal EJM College, Dr Samina Iqbal also spoke about the importance of celebrating this day.

At Govt. Degree College Drass organized a special session for the students of tourism and travel management. The special session was held on the theme to Celebrate World Tourism Day by Assistant Professor (Dr.) Jahangir Ahmad Malik.

The session was started with welcome address by Dr. Talib Hussain, Assistant Professor Zoology. He presented an overview of theme of World Tourism Day and its relevance to tourism and hospitality sector in Drass region.

The speaker said that tourism industry has been hit hard during by the Covid-19 pandemic and livelihood of people depends on it.

He emphasized that locals and stakeholders in Ladakh should not lose their hope saying that future will offer many opportunities to all.

After the lecture, the students of TTM interacted with the speaker and asked several questions to which the speaker responded positively.

The program was held under the supervision of principal GDC Drass, Dr. Amjad Ali Abassi.

In the end, Assistant Professor (Dr.) Muhammad Ashraf Wani, presented the vote of thanks to the guest speaker.
