Taxi Permit Issue: Kargil to observe complete strike for four days

VoL Desk, Sep. 30: On the call of All Transport Association Kargil, all the stakeholders of District Kargil convened a meeting here at Tourist Facilitation Centre, Kargil today.

The meeting decided to observe a complete strike for four days from Sunday onwards demanding State level permits for the taxi operators of the district.

The meeting was attended by Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust, Jamiat Ulema Isna Ashriya Kargil, Anjuman Sofia Noorbakshia, LAHDC Kargil, Students Association, Readymade Association, Hotel Association, Butcher Association, street vendors association, and other religious, social, and civil societies.

All the stakeholders unanimously acknowledged that the permit issue of the Taxi operators is not an issue of a particular section but a common concern for all of the district. After deliberations for a few hours, the meeting announced a strike of four days.

After the meeting, the legal representative of the Taxi Union Advocate Riyaz said that the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council has already extended their support for the above cause while the other stakeholders have also extended them unconditional support.

The Representative of Jamiat Ulema Isna Ashriya Kargil said that the meeting has decided to observe a strike from Sunday to Wednesday in solidarity with the Taxi operators whose demand is a genuine demand and the AJUIAK stands with them for support for this cause.

He further appealed to the UT Administration to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

Representative Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust (IKMT) said that the organization always stands in favor of the Taxi operators on this genuine issue. He further appealed to the public to cooperate and try to make this strike a successful one.

Representative Anjuman Sofia Noorbakshia also appealed to the public to observe the strike for the cause of the Taxi union.

Meanwhile, the Regional Transport Officer Kargil has called a meeting on October 01 at his office where ARTO Kargil, ARTO Leh, Chairman All Kargil Transport Association, Chairman All Ladakh Transport Association Leh, President Truck Union Leh/Kargil, President Bus Union Leh/ Kargil, President Taxi Union Leh/ Kargil, President Swaraj Mazda Leh/ Kargil, President Tempo Traveller Leh are convened and expected to attend.

The agenda of the meeting is to discuss “permit under Section 74 of Motor Vehicle Act 1988”, and “validation of permits for use outside the region in which granted under Section 88 of Motor Vehicle Act 1988”.
