SKUAST Kashmir organizes Kisan Mela in Kargil
KARGIL SEPTEMBER 24: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology (SKUAST) Kashmir today organized a mega Kisan Mela at Indoor Stadium, Kargil.
The event was inaugurated by Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan in presence of EC Agriculture, Mohsin Ali, EC Horticulture, Syed Mehdi Fazili, EC Works, Mubarak Shah Naqvi, ADC, Ghulam Mohi-Ud-In, Additional SP, Iftikhar Ahmad Choudhary, Director Extension SKUAST, Kashmir, Prof. Dil Mohd Maqdoomi, progressive farmers, entrepreneurs beside other officers and officials were present during the event.
Different departments from Kargil, KVKs from Leh, Kargil, SKUAST-K, KVKs of Srinagar, Shopian, Ganderbal and Bandipora set up their stalls and displayed their innovations.

The CEC visited the stalls where he was briefed about different innovations being taken to upgrade agriculture, horticulture, animal and husbandry and allied sectors.
The experts of agriculture and allied departments informed the CEC about the latest techniques and use of high-yielding varieties, organic farming and judicious use of fertilizers for suitable and sustainable agriculture.
Later, CEC Khan in his address at Auditorium Hall said that such events will help in exchange of technology and ideas between farmers and research centers.
While appreciating the efforts and innovations, CEC congratulated the farmers and SKUAST- Kashmir for showcasing their contribution to inspire rural and urban youths and assured them full support from LAHDC Kargil.
Khan informed that the hill council is committed to focus on marketing, packaging and cold storage for the local products. He said the event will provide a platform for farmers, and entrepreneurs to create and build new opportunities in various agricultural sectors.
During the event, the CEC also focused on the importance of Green House with implementation of new technologies. Khan also congratulated the efforts of progressive farmers and hoped that Ladakh will become a hub of vegetables in North India.
EC Mohsin also encouraged farmers for taking different initiatives that has boosted the sector. He thanked SKUAST-K for organizing such an event and hoped to work together to raise the platform for farming and allied sectors.
Earlier, SKUAST- K felicitated the guests and progressive farmers. The program concluded with vote of thanks by Scientist KVK Kargil, Dr Mehdi.
