Ladakh Marathon 2022 to resume post-Covid pandemic

Leh, Aug 23: The annual Ladakh Marathon running its 9th edition this year would commence on September 2nd week after a hiatus of two years due to the Covid pandemic. Secretary, Youth Affairs and Sports, Ravinder Kumar today convened a meeting to review the preparation for the Ladakh Marathon 2022 at DC Conference Hall with all the organiser and concerned departments.
Sharing that Ladakh Marathon is an event scaling higher the prestige of Ladakh, Secretary, Sports, Ravinder Kumar advised all the concerned departments and stakeholders to work in a collaborative and coordinated manner to make the event a successful one.

Secretary Ravinder instructed Deputy Commissioner, Leh to ensure that the traffic advisories, contingency plan of emergency evacuation and due process are in place well in advance along with other directions/ meetings required to ensure smooth conduct of the event.
Secretary Ravinder also instructed the Joint Director, Youth Services and Sports to oversee the arrangements required especially at NDS stadium.
Earlier, Organiser, Ladakh Marathon, Chhewang Motup RIMO apprised the Secretary of the various arrangements and facilities required for the successful organization of the world’s highest and toughest marathon. Informing that the Ladakh Marathon is growing bigger with each passing year with a higher number of participants, Chhewang Motup stressed the need of augmenting the resources to cater for the needs, specifically in terms of increased medical support, traffic regulation, volunteers, toilet facilities, lighting and enhanced security at the Ladakh Marathon Expo held at NDS stadium and during the whole event.
Organiser, Chhewang Motup stressed the need of promoting the event and spreading awareness among the public in advance regarding the consequent changes in the traffic movement on the race day and advisories issued in that regard and to cheer the runners to encourage and boost their spirit.
The meeting also decided to organise a dry run a few days before the actual race day to ensure that all arrangements are up to mark.
DC/CEO, LAHDC Leh; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Leh; Joint Director, YSS, Ladakh; Joint Director, Information Department, Ladakh; Director, Tourism, Ladakh; Director Health Services, Ladakh; representatives from Army, Air force and BRO; Superintendent of Police, UTDRF; OSD to Secretary, Sports; Deputy Secretary, Culture; officers from PDD, PHE, PWD and other concerned officers/ officials were present during the meeting.
