KARGIL, JULY 14, 2022:

Food Safety Ladakh in collaboration with Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) headquarter Delhi today organized Eat Right Mela under the flagship program Eat Right India initiative at Syed Mehdi Memorial Auditorium Hall Kargil.

On the occasion, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan, Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC Kargil, Santosh Sukhadeve, Dy SP Manzoor Hussain, Nodal Officer, FSSAI Ladakh Tamchos Gurmath, Vijata from FSSAI headquarter and staff of Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS), Mid-Day Meal (MDM) and Education Department attended the awareness camp.

Speaking on the occasion, the CEC commended the FSSAI and Food Safety Ladakh for conducting the awareness on good food habits among the general public in Ladakh.

He acknowledged that Kargil district has an alarming rate of anemia cases which need good and fortified food habit to combat with.

Khan further said Kargil has been included in the list to distribute fortified ration under the Public Distribution Scheme (PDS). He further appealed the public to use fortified food and also check the fortified mark (+F) on the food items while purchasing.

Vijata from FSSAI Headquarter Delhi gave a detailed presentation on sustainable food initiatives and food fortification. She said that the Eat Right Mela is aimed to aware public about right food, food fortification and food adulteration. 

Considering the data on disease and nutrition problems in Ladakh, especially the prevalence of anemic, she emphasized on intake of right food, local food, sustainable and healthy food. She also emphasized on dietary diversification, supplementation and food fortification.

Nodal Officer for Food Safety, Tamchos Gurmath presented vote of thanks while Food Safety Officer, Shehnaz Zahra moderated the whole session.

Meanwhile, various food agencies showcased fortified and nutritious food items during the Eat Right Mela at the Auditorium Hall compound.
