VoL Desk, June 11, 2022: Councillor Pushkum constituency Kacho Mohammad Feroz expressed resentment and bashed the LAHDC Kargil over the recently notified demarcation of villages under “Local Area” and establishment of the authority called “Greater Kargil Development Authority”.

Speaking to Voice of Ladakh correspondent, Kacho Feroz maintained that the current decision is a “complete surrender” of powers of the LAHDC to the UT Administration which is not a well-thought decision on the part of LAHDC Kargil. Kacho Feroz censured the LAHDC Kargil over giving consent to the decision without taking the Councilors and other public representatives on board.

In a recent decision taken by the UT Ladakh Administration through notification No. SG-LD-E-03062022-124 dated: 2-6-2022, areas ranging from Kargil town, Hundurman, Minji, TSG, Akchamal, Pashkum and Chuliskambo and adjoining areas have been demarcated and named as “Local Area” in the schedule and has undertaken within the purview of newly constituted body namely “Greater Kargil Development Authority”.

The notification was issued by Commissioner/ Secretary, Housing and Urban Development department, Ladakh Ajeet Kumar Sahu. In accordance, all the decisions regarding development would be taken up by this body framed by the UT Ladakh Administration.

“The fresh notification, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 3 of the Jammu and Kashmir Development Act, 1970, (Act No. XIX of 1970), the Administration of Union Territory of Ladakh hereby declare the area as specified and detailed in the schedule to be the “Local Area” for the purpose of this Act and constitutes therefor an Authority to be known as “Greater Kargil Development Authority” for the “Local Area””, read the government notification.

Councillor Feroz accused that “…this decision has been approved by LAHDC Kargil without even consulting the Councillors or the PRI members of these areas”.

“We strongly condemn this approval by the LAHDC Kargil and its leadership. We ask the LAHDC Kargil how such an important decision was taken without consultations. This is a complete surrender of powers of LAHDC Kargil. We ask the LAHDC Kargil to reverse this very unfortunate decision of the UT administration and its approval at all cost in the interest of the general public”, said Kacho Feroz.
