VoL Desk, April 11, 2022: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan in a letter today to Advisor to LG Ladakh, Umang Narula urged to modify the eligibility criteria for post of Accounts Assistants in Finance Department referred to the SCC for conduct of recruitment exam.

Quoting the students’ fraternity, the CEC maintained that it is demanded to make Bachelors of Arts students eligible for Account Assistant posts of UT Ladakh referred to the SSC while candidates from all other backgrounds including science stream have been made eligible for the post.

There has been a precedent in the erstwhile state of J&K that continues till date in the form of the JKSSRB keeping this post open for all graduates irrespective of their subject streams. The Hon’ble Common High Court for Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh have also passed an injunction in this regard, read the letter.

“Moreover, the posts of Accounts officers in the JKAS Cadre, as well as the Panchayat Accounts Assistants, have been open for students of all backgrounds. Arts students can be later trained for their specific need by the departments.

“Keeping in view the aforementioned points, in the interest of the unemployed but educated youths of Ladakh, I would like to request you to kindly modify the eligibility criteria for the post of Accounts Assistants in the Finance Department of UT Ladakh so as to allow all the students, irrespective of the subject backgrounds, the opportunity to sit for the said exam”, the CEC maintained.
