After VoL news report on poor condition of roads, CEC Kargil writes letter to LG
VoL Desk, April 28, 2022: After the Voice of Ladakh news report on the poor condition of roads in Kargil especially in town, the Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan has written to the Lieutenant Governor, Union Territory of Ladakh, R K Mathur demanding to disengage the NHIDCL from developmental projects in Kargil.
“I write to bring to your kind notice the bad conditions of roads in Kargil Town. As your hon’ble self very well knows that the first impression of the district upon visitors is that of the main Town however it is with great regret that I have to state that the macadamisation of roads done in Kargil town which was assigned to the NHIDCL last year have been a source of embarrassment for us”, read the CEC letter to LG.
“This has been brought to your kind notice during your last visit to Kargil. With the onset of the summer season, the executed works of NHIDCL has failed and has resulted in huge public uproar against the administration.

“There is no concerned authority of the NHIDCL with whom we can raise the issue. Moreover, the works for this season have not yet begun despite the passage of about one month since the opening up of the Zojila Pass.
“Therefore, first of all I would like to request you to kindly disengage the services of NHIDCL with regards to execution of works on the roads in Kargil Town and assign the same to the Public Works Department.
“Keeping in view the short working season and the slow-paced work on other developmental projects assigned to the NHIDCL including construction of hostel buildings, school fencing walling etc shall also be assigned to some other agency so that these projects could be completed within the stipulated time”, the letter maintained.
