Ladakh likely to have Mountain Research Institute
VoL Desk, March 28, 2022: To discuss the prospect of establishing a Mountain Research Institute in Ladakh, Lieutenant Governor, UT Ladakh, R K Mathur chaired a meeting with the Principal Secretary, Forest and Wildlife Department, Vice-Chancellor University of Ladakh, and Commissioner Secretary Higher Education, informed the LG office on Twitter today.
The LG Ladakh stressed the need to list out ways in which such an institute can contribute to Ladakh and the entire Himalayan belt at large, apart from its fundamental purpose of acquiring/imparting knowledge. The institute will be instrumental in conducting studies on glaciers, changing weather patterns, effects of climate change, etc.
“The Institute should serve as a center for interdisciplinary study for geology, climatology, glaciology, montology etc and should also take into account the employability of its graduates”, said Lt. Governor R K Mathur.
