Hr. Sec. School Akchamal qualifies for national round in India’s first school fitness and sports quiz
KARGIL, MARCH 19, 2022: In a significant development, Government Higher Secondary School Akchamal has qualified for the national round in India’s first school fitness and sports quiz which was launched in September 2021.
The quiz was launched with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make fitness and sports, a way of life among youth and create awareness about India’s rich sports history.
It was launched by Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Thakur. There were total of 36,299 students from 13502 schools across the country in the preliminary round that ended on January 25.

Among 380 schools, only eight (8) schools from Ladakh including four schools from Kargil and four schools from Leh district were qualified for the semi-final round at the UT level.
Out of these eight schools, only four schools were qualified in the final round. These schools were Kendriya Vidyalaya Leh, Lamdon Model Senior Secondary School Leh, Govt. Hr. Sec. School Akchamal Kargil and Hr. Sec. School Sumoor Leh.
In the final state round, only Hr. Sec. School Akchamal qualified for the National round. The students were awarded Rs 25,000 each while Rs 250,000 was given for the school. The names of the students include Zahir Abass and Nargis Khatoon.
Officials informed that the national round shall start in the month of June and will be live telecasted through Star Sports and DD Sports.
In the end, Tsewang Paljor Principal, Muhammad Hassan, Lecturer Physical Education and all the staff members congratulated the students and wished them best for the upcoming round.
