Minister Rural Development reviews progress of PMGSY, PMAY-G in Ladakh
Leh, January 29: Since the formation of UT of Ladakh, 195 km of road has been constructed and blacktopped in Ladakh under PMGSY, providing connectivity to villages. An amount of Rs 149 crore has been spent during this period and an additional amount of Rs 50 crore has been approved from the Government of India under this scheme which will be released soon.
This was apprised by the Commissioner Secretary (PWD) Ladakh, Ajeet Kumar Sahu, in a review meeting chaired by the Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Giriraj Singh. The Hon’ble Minister reviewed the progress of the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) with various State Governments/UT Administration, through Video Conferencing.
As the task of connecting eligible habitations with all-weather roads has been substantively completed, the GoI has now launched PMGSY-III which envisages consolidation of the existing rural road network by upgrading existing ‘Through Routes’ and ‘Major Rural Links’ connectivity habitation with Gramin Agriculture Markets, Higher Secondary Schools, and Hospitals. GoI has sanctioned a target of 500 km to Ladakh under PMGSY-III.

Sh Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Commissioner Secretary, Ladakh informed the Hon’ble Minister that against the above targets under PMGSY-III, Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) of 425 km with an estimated cost of Rs 500 crore have already been sent to the State Technical Agency, empanelled by the Ministry. Sh Sahu also requested the Hon’ble Minister for early sanctioning of the DPR considering the short working season of Ladakh.
Sh Sahu further informed that innovative green technology has been used in constructing 84 km of the road which includes nanotechnology, cement stabilization, and waste plastic.
