LEH, DECEMBER 18, 2021: Member of Parliament (MP) from Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal’s demand for Six Schedule type safeguard via empowerment of LAHDCs is a statement given on the directions of BJP high command, said Apex Body Leh member Tsering Dorjay Lakruk in a press conference here in Leh on Saturday.

“This press conference is regarding the statement of MP Ladakh in Parliament on 15 December where he said that Ladakh must have sixth schedule type protection but under the LAHDC Act. We consider that this statement is given on the directions of BJP High Command because three days after this statement the BJP high command endorsed the statement of the MP Ladakh”, said Dorjay.

“This statement is in sharp contrast to the demand of people of Ladakh. It must be understood that the LAHDC is only an Act and not part of the Constitution. But the sixth schedule is part of the constitution. Thus, the act is not much of importance”, Dorjay added.

“To demand Sixth Schedule type safeguard to Ladakh via empowerment of LAHDC is totally betrayal and contrast to our demands which is statehood and six schedule type protection. We will never support this demand and we know what is good and bad for Ladakh.”

On asking about future plan of action by Apex body and KDA alliance on the recent move, Dorjay said that the body will educate the people of Ladakh about difference between the demand by MP Ladakh in Parliament and our actual demands.

“In addition, whatever is needed for good of Ladakh we will take necessary actions on time. The people must understand the difference between the two demands.

“After the recent Ladakh bandh protest, we are waiting for a response from the government. If we fail to get a positive response from them, we will frame out the future course of action”, Thinlas concluded.

Pertinent to mention that Kargil Democratic Alliance Co-Chairman Asgar Ali Karbalai also said that the demand of MP Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal in Parliament for the empowerment of LAHDC bodies, is an attempt to demean the successful Ladakh bandh protest of 13 December.
