GDC Kargil, celebrates World Nature Conservation Day
KARGIL, JULY 28, 2021: Department of Botany, Government Degree College (GDC), Kargil organised an online webinar entitled “Significance of Conservation to the Nature” on 28th July 2021 to celebrate World Nature Conservation Day.
Dr. Suresh Kumar Rana, Scientist at Ladakh Regional Centre of G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment was the resource person on the said occasion. Dr. Amina Quari, Principal, Govt. Degree College, Kargil and Dr. Javed I Naqi were chief patron and patron respectively.
Dr. Suresh Rana delivered the keynote address in which he emphasized the importance of biodiversity and natural resources and briefed about the various anthropogenic activities that highly impact on extinction of variety of species and major conservation challenges in 20th century.
In his talk he highlighted the importance of ecological balance and how does it work to maintain the ecological system. During his presentation, he discussed about the various endemic and important flora and fauna of Ladakh.
He also emphasized different factors which is responsible for making Ladakh biodiversity very unique. He also highlighted about the RAMSAR site of Ladakh, protected areas of Ladakh and wildlife hotsopts in Ladakh.
In his conclusion remark he talked about various strategies of conservation of Ladakh biodiversity. After question answer session he interacted with faculty members and the students and also assured to visit GDC Kargil after the pandemic.
More than 100 number of students along with faculty members participated in the said programme.
Dr. Sonam Tamchos, delivered the well come address and coordinated the whole programme. Dr. Imtiyaz Hussain introduced the resource person and his achievements to the audience while Prof. Ahsan Ali presented a formal vote of thanks.
