Ladakh mountaineer successfully summits Mt Everest
Leh, May 13: Jigmet Tharchin from Tia village in Leh district made the whole UT Ladakh proud after reaching the summit of Mt. Everest on May 12. He successfully descended back to the Mt. Everest Base camp today.
A civilian from UT Ladakh has successfully reached the summit of Mount Everest for the first time. UT Administration and LAHDC Leh assisted Jigmet in his quest.
He reached the summit of Mt. Everest at around 07:04 AM on May 12. He had earlier climbed several peaks of more than 6000m. Jigmet has done all the basic and advanced mountaineering training courses from the Indian Institute of Mountaineering. He is a member of the Ladakh Mountain Guide Association, which has played a crucial role in his achievement. Many experienced climbers from LMGA are now attempting other major peaks in Nepal with the support of IMF.

Jigmet Tharchin acknowledged the support of Lieutenant Governor, RK Mathur; CEC Leh, Tashi Gyalson; MP Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal and the people of Ladakh, including his family members, friends and LMGA.
Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Ravinder Kumar congratulated Jigmat Tharchin for his remarkable achievement in mountaineering by summiting Mt Everest while representing UT Ladakh for the first time in its history.
Secretary Ravinder congratulated Jigmet on his achievement and said it would inspire the youth of Ladakh to take mountaineering and other adventure sports as a profession. He extended good wishes for his future endeavours.
