Lucknow, April 12, KNT: Wasim Rizvi, whose unbelievable PIL against the sacred book of Muslims was dismissed by the Supreme Court of India is known as a controversial man. Ever since he assumed the charge of chairman Central Waqf Board chairman in Uttar Pradesh (a post he held for over a decade.), he had been always in news for the one or the other reason.

Rizvi has been known for his support to BJP. Those who knew him describe his as an opportunist who missis no opportunity to appease present dispensation.

An under graduate, Rizvi is the son of a Class II railways employee who started his political career by joining Samajwadi Party in 2000 and later on became the chairman of Shia Wakf Board. He was accused of siphoning off funds of the Board and expelled but on the directions of Court he was reinstated.

The following are some issues when Rizvi who has even been abandoned by his family members was in news:

1.  In 2019, Rizvi wrote and produced a movie, ‘Ram Ki Janmabhoomi’.

2. In November 2020, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered two cases against Rizvi and others in connection with alleged irregularities in the sale, purchase and transfer of waqf properties in UP.

3. In January 2019, Rizvi pitched for the closure of madrasas. In his letter to PM Modi, Rizvi alleged that terror outfit Islamic State was funding such institutions to keep Muslim children away from mainstream education and from other religions. In his letter he wrote: “(If primary madrasas are not closed down soon, then in the next 15 years, more than half the Muslim population of the country will become supporters of ISIS ideology… In the name of Islam, they (students in primary madrasas) are being turned into radicals),” the letter read.

4. In 2018, Rizvi had written to CM Adityanath and PM Modi, seeking abolition of the concept of madrasas, as they “had become a business venture for clerics and generated terrorists instead of ensuring jobs for Muslims”.

5. In 2020, in yet another letter to the PM Modi, Rizwi demanded that the Places of Worship Act, 1991 be abolished and a high-level committee be appointed to “reclaim land from mosques constructed over ancient temples.”

6.He has also been quoted as saying that “giving birth to children like animals” is harmful for the country.

7. Rizvi supported BJP over the legislation on triple talaq Bill and advocated a jail term of ten years for the offenders, as opposed to the existing provision of three years.

8. When the Babri Masjid-Ram Mandir dispute was in court, Rizvi in 2017 suggested that a Ram temple should come up in Ayodhya, while the mosque could be built in Lucknow.

9. He even claimed that he will commit suicide if Narendra Modi is not re-elected PM for the second time.

10. In March this year, Rizvi filed a PIL seeking deletion of 26 verses from holy Quran. (KNT)
