KARGIL, APRIL 27, 2021: General Administration Department, UT Ladakh has ordered constitution of a committee for identification of Minor Mineral Blocks and Minor Mineral Plots on State land for open/ e-auctioning in UT of Ladakh.

An Order No:-71-LA(GAD) of 2021, Dated:- 27.04.2021 issued by the above-mentioned office maintained, “Sanction is hereby accorded to the constitution of committee comprising the following for identification /delineation and feasibility studies of Minor Mineral Blocks and Minor Mineral Plots on State land for granting minor mineral concession by way of open/ e-auctioning after approval of the competent authority”.

The committee is comprised of Joint/Deputy Director, Department of Geology and Mining, Ladakh as Chairperson, SDMs of the respective Sub-Division, Executive Engineer I&FC Department of the concerned Division, DFOs Leh/ Kargil, District Officer Pollution Control Board Leh/Kargil, Assistant Director Fisheries Leh/Kargil, and Team of Technical Experts to be co-opted by the Chairperson of the committee as Members.

It is pertinent to mention that various political figures including veteran leaders and socio-religious organisations recently have expressed their resentment and concerns over “National level” auctioning the minor mining blocks and plots in Ladakh.

The prominent figures that included CEC Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan, CEC Leh Tashi Gyaltsan, Ex-State Minister Qambar Ali Akhone, Ex-State Minister and Vice President Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) Tsering Dorjay Lakruk, Ex MLA Asgar Ali Karbalai, Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust (IKMT), Anjuman Jamiat Ulema Isna Ashriya Kargil (AJUIAK), are looking at the national level bidding of minor mining blocks as a threat to the ecology, economy, culture, and future of Ladakh.
