MeT Predicts Few More Wet Spells on 21-23 April and 26-28 April

Srinagar CNS, April 17: The weather in Kashmir Valley has been inclement for the last four days as per the forecast of Meteorological Department and rains in the plains and light snowfall in the upper areas have continued intermittently.

However, several times a day on Saturday, the sun managed to show its presence out of the thick clouds.

According to the Meteorological Department, the weather in Kashmir Valley is likely to be more or less bad till April 23.

The higher reaches of Kashmir including the world-famous ski-resort, Gulmarg, received fresh snowfall while the plains of the Valley including Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir received incessant rainfall on Saturday, bringing down the temperature further across Kashmir.

However, the authorities have also closed 86 Km Bandipora—Gurez road following fresh snowfall at Razdan top in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district. Gulmarg, Gurez and other higher reaches in northern Kashmir have experienced fresh snowfall during the intervening night of Friday-Saturday.

The overnight incessant rainfall, however, drenched the plains of Kashmir here, thus bringing down the temperature further in the Valley.

In wake of the fresh snowfall, the authorities have ordered the closure of Bandipora-Gurez road. An official said that the road has been closed today morning after Razdan top along the road received at least six inches of fresh snowfall.

Notably, the road was thrown open for one way traffic just a week ago after hectic efforts by the authorities.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department (MeT) has predicted moderate rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir till today late evening.

“There may be some occasional breaks in between and heavy rainfall at one or two places can’t be ruled out. Higher reaches may receive snowfall ranging between 1 inches and 1 ft,” an official in MeT said.

He said that another spell of rain is expected tomorrow, particularly towards afternoon and evening. “Possibility of a few more spells around 21-23 April and 26-28 April,” he added. (CNS
