Purigi Cultural Understanding Workshop for Children held in Minji
KARGIL, MARCH 07, 2021: Ranthag Theatre group in collaboration with Purig Cultural and Literary Society Kargil Ladakh organised a day-long workshop on Purigi Cultural Understanding for children on Sunday, 7th March 2021 at Minjee Gound.
The theme of the workshop was ”Skad rabs-Yulrabs” means the local linguistic and heritage.
The workshop started with a Street observation of local artifact’s and architectural marvels which stands still around Minjee Gound Village of Purig Kargil.
During the observation Vice President PCLS and Director Ranthag Theatre Group and state awarded Kacho Ahmad Khan, and noted Purigi Poet and Media Secretary PCLS Mohammad Taqi Khan Nayab led the students to the site where old houses are still there to tell the story of various past architectural terminologies being used in Purigi language.
The main objective of the workshop was to familiarise the new generation with those local vocabularies and terminologies which are used for various portions of ancestral houses.
During the event, students seemed very curious about knowing the past artifacts from the elders.
When the experts showcased a wooden door beam, locally known as, ”Chatan” the children were fascinated to know the name which was not familiar to them due to cultural influence from outside, said the resource person Kacho Ahmad.
The elders of the locacilty wholeheartedly welcomed the organisers when they came to know about the objectives of the task. Subsequently, the elders also took active participation in the event and immidiately came forward in Purigi traditional attire.
Mohmmad Hasan and some womens also displayed the old artifacts being preserved in their respective small house museums, locally known as, ”Dzot”.
Two elders Haji Ibrahim Sheikh and Haji Mohd Ibrahim gave demonstrations about the tools and their uses. Pertinently, Mr. Haji Abbas let the visiting children inside their houses and made them known about certain artifacts.
Meanwhile, Mr.Taqi Khan Nayab conducted a purigi idiomatic quiz, ”Tsot” which the children enjoyed alot.
All the participants were served refreshments by the organisers. Mr. Kacho Ahmad expressed gratitude to the locals and the participants on behalf of the RTG and PCLS.
