First CHINOOK helicopter operated in Zanskar for Passengers
KARGIL MARCH 02, 2021: In order to evacuate the stranded students and passengers from Zanskar, Indian Air Force (IAF) today operated CH-47 Chinook helicopter sorties from Leh to Zanskar and Zanskar to Leh.
In this connection, as intimated by the Liaison Officer Leh/Zanskar to the office of Executive Councilor for Tourism and Zanskar Affairs, a total of 53 stranded students and passengers were airlifted from Zanskar to Leh, while 35 passengers were airlifted from Leh to Padum.
Executive Councilor for Tourism and Zanskar Affairs Er Punchok Tashi has conveyed his heartfelt gratitude to the AOC, IAF Udhampur and their Group Captain Sh. Mishra for timely operation of the CH-47 Chinook helicopter sorties.

EC Tashi stated that operation of CH-47 Chinook helicopter sorties between Zanskar-Leh-Zanskar is a historic event. He further said these sorties have eased the stranded passengers by enabling them to reach their respective destinations.
