KARGIL, MARCH 27, 2021: Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve inaugurated zone wise and variety wise allotment of fruit plants under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) for the year 2020-21 here today. 

The allotment will be carried out in 3 zones including Kargil, Chiktan and Batalik during which the Department of Horticulture is going to distribute 5830 saplings in Kargil, 1670 in Chiktan and 2500 in Batalik that include apple normal, high density apple, pear babagosh grafted and different kinds of apricot. 

DC Santosh Sukhadeve also visited and inspected the solar polythene houses where the department has grown various types of grafted apricot plants.

On the occasion, the Chief Horticulture Officer (CHO), Kargil Ali Raza briefed the Deputy Commissioner about various varieties and farming of apples, apricots, almonds and pear, adding he said that a plant gets ready to bear fruits in 7 to 8 years. He further said that every year, the plants are brought from Kashmir in the month of November and December and kept dumped under soil for the winter season and as per routine it is distributed among the farmers during the spring season. 

As regards to the irrigation of the plants, the CHO said that the water available in local canals are used besides a borewell has also been developed to cover an area of 108 canal.
