Leh, March 15: To tame traffic snarl in Leh, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Leh, Shrikant Suse today chaired a meeting to discuss the traffic management plan of Leh town with concerned officials. 

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Leh, Rajiv Pandey, gave a presentation to discuss the strategies to decongest Leh town. He mentioned the number of vehicles registered from 1994 to 2020, registration of public transportation at Leh, the preliminary studies conducted to check the flow of vehicular traffic at Leh Gate, the composition of vehicles per hour at Leh Gate, the survey of pedestrians at Leh Gate, interventions needed at Leh Gate & Petrol Pump Chowk and full-time pedestrian street strategy.

SSP Leh apprised DC Leh of the surveys conducted to understand the current situation of vehicular traffic in Leh town.

The other topics discussed during the meeting included the proposal to extend the mall road, one-way road, parking of vehicles at Polo Ground, shifting of long-route and taxis from the existing bus-stand to Bomb Garh, multi-level parking in the leh market area, car parking at Shakshaling, shifting the on-road parking sites from the Main Market to Polo Ground, by-passing military convoy through GH Road to Khardung-La and improving the public transport system.

SSP Leh also suggested introducing e-carts in Leh town to ferry passengers to pedestrian-zones, plying e-buses on internal routes in the town,introducing new bus routes in the town and introducing a token system for bike rental shops to decongest traffic in Leh town.
