CEC convenes meeting on improvement of District Library Kargil
KARGIL, MARCH 26, 2021: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan convened a meeting of the concerned officers and members of Students Educational Movement of Kargil (SEMOK) with regard to the strengthening and improving the present infrastructure of District Library Kargil at Council Secretariat here today.
Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve, District Superintending Engineer PWD Kargil Er Ved Prakash, Executive Engineer R&B-II Kargil Er Kacho Mehmood Ali, Librarian District Library Kargil Zahoor Ahmad, members of SEMOK besides other concerned officers were present during the meeting.
During the course of the meeting, CEC Feroz Ahmad Khan said that during the recent visit to District Library Kargil Lieutenant Governor Ladakh R K Mathur suggested for a few changes in the library including its strengthening and improvement with particular focus on providing more access to students in the library.

CEC Khan further said that immediate necessary steps are needed to improve the library followed by a long term plan for its expansion so that more students get benefitted.
Feroz Khan said that considering the demands of the students, orders have been issued to allow students to read till 10 PM in the library, adding he suggested SEMOK to provide volunteers for managing the library during late night hours. He further said that a roaster should be chalked out in consultation with the District Librarian and the process should start from 1st of April this year.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve said that a detailed plan has been drafted through the concerned agencies for improvement of the library and it will be made sure that this library will be an example in the whole UT.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the major issue that needs to be addressed is increasing the reading capacity above 200 students and to provide facilities for late night reading sessions. He said that regarding the reading room, the new block of civil services section will be provided for students for reading as a temporary measure.
On the occasion the members of SEMOK assured to extend all out support to the Administration regarding the proper functioning of late night reading sessions after consultation with the executive body.
The concerned officers of the executing agencies briefed the plan and design of the future library to the CEC, DC, officers and students on the occasion.
