Traditional Music Training, Workshop Concludes at Mulbekh
Kargil/ Jan. 01, 2021: 15 Days Traditional Music, Daman and Surna Training /Workshop organized by Ladakh Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (LAACL) Kargil in collaboration with Lamdon Social Welfare Society concluded at Spring Dales Public School Wakha Mulbekh here today
Executive Councilor (EC) for Tourism Er Phunsok Tashi was the chief guest on the occasion.
Tehsildar Shargole Muhammad Hassan, District Cultural Officer Kargil Muhammad Ali Tak, Zonal Education Officer Shargole Mehfooz Ali Khan, President Lamdon Social Welfare Society Wakha Mulbekh Tsering Nurboo, Geyn Nawang Minjur, Principal Spring Dales Public School Wakha Mulbekh Tsewang Nurboo, Sarpanchs, Panchs, prominent citizens, workshop instructors, trainees, folk artists and cultural enthusiasts in good number were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, EC Tourism Phunsok Tashi on behalf of the LAHDC, Kargil congratulated the LAACL, Kargil for conducting this workshop in Wakha Mulbekh area. He said that such workshops are the need of the hour and this initiative will go a long way in preservation of the folk music and folklore and to pass them to the posterity in their true essence adding that the LAHDC is fully committed to extend all out support to the LAACL, Kargil in organizing such cultural preservation activities in future.
EC also extended gratitude to the Lamdon Social Welfare Society Wakha, Mulbekh for extending support to Ladakh Cultural Academy Kargil in organizing this event. He also expressed satisfaction on the notable presentation of folk songs, daman and surna tunes by the trainees and said that these presentations are testimony to the fact that the trainers as well as trainees have pursued the training programme with utmost dedication and sincerity.
The EC said that there has been remarkable changes in all sectors after the formation of Ladakh as UT and a number of festivals and other events for promotion of cultural tourism in Wakha Mulbekh and other parts of the district are in the pipeline. He also urged the youngsters to come forward and take benefit from such programmes to know about their folk songs and folklore which are a treasure trove of the glorious past of Purig area.
President Lamdon Social Welfare Society Tsering Nurboo who also spoke on the occasion hailed LAACL, Kargil for holding the workshop in Wakha Mulbekh area. He also highlighted the cultural heritage of Wakha Mulbekh which is home to the Buddhist and Muslim communities who have been living here with communal harmony and peaceful co-existence since centuries, adding that the area is dotted with many world famous heritage sites with the potential to grab the attention of national and international tourists, researchers and scholars.
Addressing the concluding session, District Cultural Officer Muhammad Ali Tak welcomed the dignitaries, artists, resource persons and people of the village. He said that history, culture, folklore, dress and customs are identity of every community and it is important for our young generation to learn these traditions. He further said that the workshop was aimed at protecting besides teaching and popularizing the local folk songs, music and musical instruments among the younger generation.
Participants of the workshop also shared their feedback and experiences and said that the workshop provided them an ideal opportunity to get acquainted with their rich history and cultural traditions which assumes great significance in the present era.
Meanwhile, the workshop trainees and the folk artists of Purgi, Shina Dardi and Balti performed various solo and group based folk songs dances which were highly applauded and enjoyed by the dignitaries and the audience.
Tsering Samphel and Tsewang Rigzin conducted the proceedings of the programme while Muhammad Abbass Skith presented the vote of thanks at the end.
More than 30 trainees from Wakha Mulbekh and adjoining villages participated in the 15 days training and workshop who were imparted theoretical and practical training about the nuances of folk tunes and songs by senior musicians and folk singers.
