Sherpas Scale K2 Summit in Winter for First Time
VoL/ Monitoring Desk: History was created in the realm of mountaineering last week when a Nepalese Sherpa team of 10 climbers have done the unthinkable. They successfully climbed K2, the second highest mountain in the world during winters.
As per updates coming from Baltistan, the team reached the summit late at 5pm local time on 15th Jan 2021. The world mountaineering fraternity was much excited as the Sherpas, who are often called mountain tigers, accomplished one of the last unfinished challenges in high altitude mountaineering. A group of 10 of the world’s strongest climbers to achieve this monumental feat.
K2 is one of the tough climbing history with many fatalities. Unfortunately as reports came in, Climber Sergi Mingote lost his life while descending from Camp 1 to Base in a fall . He was not part of the summit team. The Sherpa Team composition as under:
